10:30 AM12:00 PMKeynote Speaker: Lead by Letting Go: Are 20th Century Constraints Holding Open Innovation Back?
Dr. Terri Griffith
CIMS is proud to provide Dr. Terri Griffith, Associate Dean, Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University, as our meeting's keynote speaker.

Presentation Overview:
Let go of 20th century boundaries and processes. Hold tight to your performance standards, your relationships, the value of education, and the laws of your organization’s ‘physics.’ Doing a Google Trends search on the phrase, open innovation, shows a plateau, and perhaps, a drop off in our interest in open innovation. Is this because we’ve learned how to do it, or is it because we had only moderate success and so have moved on to the next thing? It’s time to re-invigorate open innovation, perhaps by “letting go” of practices that are holding us back from greater success. Terri Griffith will highlight the demands on 21st century organizations and point to 20th century limitations that may be lurking in your organization. You are certainly aware of the demands, but perhaps not the extent that prior practice may be holding you back. Walk away with practical examples from small and large organizations to trigger the first step in your own environment.

2:00 PM2:30 PMIAOIP Partnership with CIMS: Innovation Management Certification
Dr. Joseph Nadan
The International Association of Innovation Professionals (“IAOIP”), founded on January 15, 2013, is dedicated to the proposition that human civilization is at a crossroads where solutions to many of the world’s problems need to be facilitated by improved innovation practices and management. The IAOIP currently supports and certifies individual innovation practitioners; in the near future the IAOIP will assess and accredit organizations that wish to participate in solving these problems. CIMS and IAOIP are pleased to announce their partnership in advancing the effective practice and management of innovation skills and knowledge.

During the past 30 months, IAOIP working groups defined innovation capabilities, developed and published a professional Body of Knowledge (“BOK”), and created and now administer overall and specialized certifications in innovation. Our call to action is based on the desire of organizations to qualify employees and new hires, and for academic and other training institutions and consultants to prepare individuals to undertake management and leadership positions in innovation. Currently, 52 of its more than 300 professional members passed online exams and are now certified as Foundation Level Innovation Practitioners.

IAOIP recently established a new working group to develop efficient and cost effective methodologies to perform organizational assessment and accreditations. This paper presents the results of a survey sent by CIMS to more than 1,000 professionals that was intended to demonstrate that we could determine innovation competency of an individual to within five levels (Expert, Proficient, Capable, Minimal and None) in less than 15 minutes and at very low cost. It uses a newly developed online tool to perform Rapid Measurement of Innovation Competencies in five areas (innovation terminology and definitions, types of innovation, innovation methods and tools, innovation processes, and the culture of innovation) at the four lowest of the six levels of the Bloom’s taxonomy of Cognitive Levels (Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation). Before the conclusion of the survey we took a profile of the respondent, asked them if they would be interested in suggesting ways to improve the survey, and then provided their scores. When the survey is closed we will send respondents an email benchmarking them with others who completed the survey.
