Information about Paul Mugge

Paul Mugge became Director of the Center for Innovation Management Studies and Innovation Professor at NC State's College of Management on Sept.1, 2005.

Paul Mugge is a 35 year veteran of IBM, where he specialized in helping clients transform their new products and services development capabilities. For the past ten years, he held leadership positions in IBM's Global Business Strategy and Business Innovation services. Most recently, he was a Partner in IBM's Global Business Consulting Services, focusing on Strategy and Change Practices in industrial organizations. For the first 25 years of his career, Paul worked in IBM's product development community and held a number of global manufacturing and development positions including System Manager for IBM's Mid-range S/370 Systems, Vice President of Manufacturing and Development for the ROLM/Siemens Corporation, Vice President of Development for IBM's Personal Systems Group and Lab Director of the IBM Boca Raton, Florida facility.

He was part of the team that developed the industry's first capability to simulate, test and manufacture very large scale integration circuits, and led the IBM team that conceived the IBM ThinkPad. He received IBM's Innovation Achievement Award for his work with IBM's supermini-mainframe, the IBM 930.

Before joining IBM, he was an artillery officer in the U.S. Army (Regular). He was a distinguished Military Graduate of Arkansas State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics.

As its new Director, Paul will expand CIMS' involvement with industry clients by increasing corporate sponsorship and providing customized solutions to their needs.
