Raleigh, NC, October 2008--Space is still available for the final dates of a series of workshops designed to connect discoveries in the emerging field of nanoscience to technological applications.
The workshops sponsored by the Center for Innovation Studies (CIMS) at NC State University in cooperation will the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Pennsylvania NanoMaterials Commercialization Center, will be held on Dec. 9 and Dec. 11, 2008, at two different sites with a total of four universities participating.
The December 9th workshop will be hosted in State College, Penn., with both Penn State University and Lehigh University researchers participating. Similarly, the December 11th event will take place on the campuses of the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Penn., and will also be attended by researchers from Carnegie Mellon University.
Holding these two separate workshops on the campuses of two of the four participating universities within the same week will allow industry participants to choose their involvement based on geographic location as well as research interests.
These workshops are an integral part of the CIMS-NSF Partnership for Innovation (PFI)--a four-year, $700,000 research project--and provide both industry practitioners and academic researchers a new methodology for determining if an emerging technology can be commercialized into a breakthrough product.
After attending the workshops, participants will be able to:
1. Identify unique and useful new technological capabilities.
2. Identify categories of new and unique products that may be enabled by new capabilities.
3. Identify the path to useful new technology platforms that could launch these new products.
