IMS Faculty

The Innovation Management School utilizes many of the best minds in innovation management. Typically, these individuals have been engaged with the Center for Innovation Management Studies, Industrial Research Institute, College of Management at North Carolina State University and other prominent universities and corporations from across the United States.

Lynda Aiman-Smith Dr. Lynda Aiman-Smith is a professor in business management focusing on organizational behavior, culture, and technology management. Her research focuses on organizational culture and its impact on high-tech corporations. Lynda’s industrial experience includes work with Air Products, Alcan Pharmaceutical Packaging, Cisco, Red Hat, Milliken Chemicals and others. Prior to completing her PhD, Lynda was a plant manager for Raychem Corporation.

Al Bean Dr. Alden S. Bean is the Executive Director of the Center for Innovation Management Studies (CIMS) located at NC State University. Dr. Bean's current research involves studies of patterns in the organization and funding of U.S. industrial R&D activities, the role of technology in U.S. firms' corporate strategy, and technological innovation and productivity growth in U.S. firms. He has also authored numerous articles and reports on research management, and science and technology policy. Before CIMS moved to NC State in 2000, he held the Wm. R. Kenan, Jr. Chair in Management and Technology in the College of Business and Economics at Lehigh University. Prior to his Lehigh appointment, Dr. Bean spent 10 years with the National Science Foundation, and served on the faculties of the University of Cincinnati, the State University of New York at Albany and Northwestern University.

Angus Kingon Dr. Angus Kingon is executive director of technology commercialization programs in the College of Management. Dr. Kingon’s research is funded by the National Science Foundation to work closely with over 200 leading industrial corporations to develop new processes for creating business value from science and technology. He is also the U.S. advisor and lead curriclum developer to a national education program in technology-based innovation and economic develoment for the country of Portugal. Dr. Kingon is also a Professor in Materials Science in the College of Engineering at NC State.

John McCreery Dr. John McCreery is Associate Professor at the College of Management of North Carolina State University.  He teaches and performs research in the areas of project management, new product and service development, business processes, and operations management.  Prior to joining NC State, John has worked for Andersen Consulting, now Accenture, as a systems analyst on IT design and implementation projects for a variety of industries.  He has worked as an applications engineer for a cardiac pacemaker company, and was Chief Operating Officer for a firm in the medical device industry that designs, manufactures, and markets multi-parameter vital signs monitoring equipment used in critical care areas of hospitals.

Mitzi Montoya Weiss Dr. Mitzi Montoya-Weiss is the Zelnak Professor of Marketing Innovation nad Marketing Area Coordinator at NC State University’s College of Management. Mitzi focuses on product management, new product and service development, marketing strategy and management of technology and innovation. Her industry experience includes work with IBM, Raytheon, Martin Marietta Materials, ABB, John Deere Dow Chemical, DaimlerChrysler and others.

Paul Mugge Paul Mugge is the Innovation Professor and Director, Center for Innovation Management Studies – an organization dedicated to help sponsor companies learn and master how to manage innovation. His primary role in this Program will be to define the best practices enterprises use to ‘organically’ develop and grow durable businesses. Mr. Mugge was responsible for leading the R&D of two of IBM’s most entrepreneurial organizations: the ROLM Corporation - a quintessential ‘Silicon Valley’ telecommunications firm; and its own IBM PC Company.  In the 1990’s under CEO Lou Gerstner’s leadership and vision, Mr. Mugge led the reengineering of IBM’s hardware and software businesses worldwide. The result was leaner, faster development teams that after two years had restored IBM to financial stability and reestablished it as a market leader. For his work, Mr. Mugge received the IBM Chairman’s Award.
