About IMS

The Innovation Management School (IMS) is the result of a powerful partnership between the College of Management at North Carolina State University and the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) intended to serve the needs of firms ‘desiring to grow’.

The IMS has been created to provide current and future business leaders leading-edge innovation management training. Its hands-on courses heavily leverage the brain trust of both the Center for Innovation Management Studies (CIMS) – a network of this nation’s most prominent innovation and technology management academic thought-leaders and the IRI – a network of this nation’s most successful and advanced innovation and technology management practitioners. This brain trust is harnessed in corporate training courses and delivered through the College of Management’s Executive Programs. IRI and CIMS have both spent over 20 years of research analyzing innovation’s toughest problems. For more information, download our full whitepaper.

College of Management is leader in management education through strong business partnerships, focusing on technology and innovation, promoting entrepreneurial programs, and developing international initiatives and alliances.

Industrial Research Institute is the nation’s leading association of companies and federal laboratories working together to their research and development capabilities.  Founded by the National Research Council in 1938, the IRI exists to enhance technological innovation in industry. IRI’s Research Technology Management is respected globally and is an award-winning, bi-monthly journal published since 1958 containing peer-reviewed articles covering the entire spectrum of technological innovation, from research and development through product development to marketing.  RTM is a leading source of knowledge and best practices on innovation management for leaders of research, development, and engineering worldwide.

Center for Innovation Management Studies (CIMS) is a unique industry/university cooperative research center founded in 1983 at Lehigh University and eventually relocating to North Carolina State University in 2000. The Center conducts and disseminates academic research on the management of the technological innovation process, whose results are perceived as valuable by the sponsors in increasing the productivity and effectiveness of technological change and by the community of scholars for framing and resolving important questions of substance and method in the management of innovation and has a long history of working together with the IRI. CIMS is funded by its corporate members, NC State University, the National Science Foundation, and the Kenan Institute for Engineering, Technology & Science.

Executive Programs is responsible for managing the development and delivery of the IMS Courses.
