One of the tried and true benefits of the CIMS membership is the bi-annual Sponsor meeting. This meeting is held twice a year: once in the spring and once in the fall. The largest benefit of these meetings is having the research presented to you by the researcher for a CIMS project. That researcher is available throughout the meeting for additional questions and discussions. Another plus is when a Sponsor's project is in the beginning stages, the researcher in attendance can receive guidance and direction from the Sponsors so that the research conducted is most benefial the CIMS Sponsors. These meetings also provide time for networking and exchange amongst the Corporate Sponsors. One of the major benefits of this is to find that an industry, which may be completely different from your own, still has similar innovation management issues. Their solution may be one for your own company.
In the past years, the meetings have been held at the University and all participants traveled there to participate. CIMS now conducts ALL Corporate Sponsor Meetings off site at the offices/headquarters of a Corporate Sponsor. This rotates so that given enough time each Sponsor will have hosted at least one CIMS meeting - whether it be spring or fall. Some of the benefits of this is that it enables all participants to go to a location that generally they would not have any opportunity to visit as well as allows the host to share with the participants something that their company views as innovative and is used as a resource at their site for their employees. Most importantly, through hosting the CIMS Sponsor Meeting, the host company is entitled to include as many of their employees in the Center's presentations as they see fit. This is a benefit that is not achievable in today's economy with the cost of travel and lodging let alone individuals being gone for 2-3 days at a time.
