Abstract

This project encompasses the early stages of developmental and methodological work performed in launching a multivariate, longitudinal examination of R&D project management. A comprehensive framework reframing R&D project management in terms of resource dependence concepts and principles was used to design measures and methods for assessing project management processes and their impact on project performance. Since this work focused on the early stages of the larger research project, results from this research are primarily methodological in nature. Definitional work, sampling frames, developed measures, data collection procedures, and database characteristics from conducting this longitudinal research are discussed. Preliminary results describing R&D projects at the time of project initiation are also presented. The larger study is still ongoing with data collection continuing until about 1991.
